In 2006-2007 TELR collaborated with the Ohio State University Libraries at multiple levels to better align and integrate our services. Products of this collaboration include:
a) Four projects to expose library services through the Carmen learning management system:
- eReserves hosting: A system for delivering Electronic Reserves resources through Carmen, even for those instructors not using the Carmen system. Carmen eReserves has streamlined student access to course materials and allowed the library to retire their previous system.
- Librarian role: A role that faculty may optionally assign to identify people as Librarians in their Carmen courses and to give those individuals broad authority to manage online course resources.
- Library Link application: Subject-area librarians can now customize content for instructors or students at the course or department level in Carmen (or by non-action, permit a general Ohio State University Libraries default resource).
- Federated authentication to external publisher resources: Disentangled the issues preventing single sign-on between Carmen and University Libraries' subscription databases.
b) Digital Storytelling: This program presents new media production techniques in the context of documenting a topic of academic interest. University Librarians and TELR multimedia experts joined to implement and evaluate a Digital Storytelling approach to support teaching and outreach at Ohio State. The program team is reworking the program this year from a 10-week community of practice to a 3-day immersion. See an example:

c) Facilities Expansions: TELR and Ohio State University Libraries are working together to plan and implement the expansion of the Digital Union and an experimental classroom. Plans under consideration for the new Digital Union include a usability lab and additional space for collaboration and technology explorations. 060: The Experimental Classroom, will be a staffed facility in which departments and instructors can try out the latest classroom technologies before investing in them.
d) 2020 Vision: The Future of Scholarship and Publishing: In this speaker series co-hosted by TELR and University Libraries, national leaders in digital scholarship will consider digital scholarship through diverse lenses such as scholarly communication, academic publishing, and intellectual property in an age where the lines between scholarly and popular discourse are becoming blurred. Visit the 2020 Vision website for a list of invited speakers and a schedule of events.
e) Course Enhancement Grants: The Ohio State University Libraries Course Enhancement Grant program pairs librarians with faculty members to identify course resources and make them available through Carmen. TELR now serves on the advisory committee for this successful effort. See Enhancing Research in the Classroom for details about one grant project.
