(Download this document in PDF format.)
TELR will be conducting a pilot program on TELRport, our island in Second Life (SL). All Ohio State faculty, staff, and students are eligible to participate.
Pilot participants will receive:
- TELR supplied parcel space (space size to be mutually agreeable).
- Linden dollars (amount to be mutually agreeable).
- An introductory tutorial regarding basic navigation and building techniques.
- Brainstorming and guidance regarding moving course ideas into Second Life.
- Venues moderated by TELR for sharing Second Life experiences, techniques, and practices.
- Information resources regarding informed consent, best practices, and other SL education and training locations.
- Access to other TELR-created areas, such as a welcome area, sandbox, social space, educational meeting space, and exhibition center.
- Assistance in evaluating user experience.
- An active voice in TELR’s future decisions regarding support of Second Life.
Pilot participants will be responsible for:
- Building, financing, creating, and troubleshooting all aspects of their SL presence.
- Acquiring and preserving written informed consent from students.
- Identifying and scheduling appropriate lab space if required.
Please note that TELR staff will not be able to provide substantial programming support for pilot projects.
For TELR, the purpose of the project is to investigate the feasibility of supporting Second Life as an instructional environment for Ohio State faculty, students, and staff. The results of the pilot will determine the nature of our ongoing support of Second Life for Ohio State.
Thanks for your interest in TELRport.
