Taking Your Course Online: A 2-Part Workshop

Wondering what it takes to teach a course online? Join us for a two-part series that explores strategies, planning, and resources for online teaching.

This series introduces:

a conceptual framework for moving a face-to-face course to an online setting
advice from Ohio State instructors with experience in online teaching
examples of common eLearning technologies

Who Should Sign Up?

faculty who want to transition a face-to-face course to an online format
technology and instructional support staff who assist faculty in developing online course materials
staff from non-academic units who want to design online educational resources

Sessions Details

Sessions will be offered quarterly; if the dates below have passed, please contact digitialunion@osu.edu for information on upcoming dates.

The Spring 2010 series will include both online and in-class activities to create a hybrid learning experience. Video-conferencing can be arranged for participants on regional campuses.

Online Activities

Before and between the workshop sessions, participants will participate in online activities using Carmen. Information about these activities will be communicated in ways congruent with what might be used for a hybrid or online course. Expected time commitment would be no more than 1 hour.

Session 1: Overview

Date: Tuesday, May 11
Time: 10 a.m. – noon
Location: Science & Engineering Library, Rm 070
Summary: Explore what it means to move your course online in terms of time, resources, and what to expect.*

Session 2: Strategy and Planning

Date: Thursday, May 13
Time: 10 a.m. – noon
Location: Science & Engineering Library, Rm 070.
Summary: Learn how to plan and implement your transition to teaching online, including developing online activities and materials that meet course objectives.*

*You may wish to go online during parts of these workshops. If so, please bring your own laptop computer and be sure to activate your OSU wireless account prior to attending. A limited number of laptaps are available for checkout at the Digital Union by prior arrangement.

Registration

Seating for these workshops is limited and registration is required. Participation in both sessions and in the related online activities is expected. Depending on registration numbers and interests, you may be placed on a waiting list.
